Senator McCain spoke to the Washington Blade. I congratulate him for that. It's reported as being the first time a republican presidential candidate has spoken to a publication aimed at the LGBT community. However, his answers, or frequently his non-answers, show that he's not a friend.
His answers primarily fall into the don't support camp or fall into the didn't give a full answer camp. His record, though, speaks far more loudly than his words. If elected, McCain will not support a much needed hate crimes bill, he is unlikely to support ENDA and is unlikely to support allowing gays to serve openly in the military. It will be four more years of pushing LGBT Americans away. The only difference is that the responses will be a bit more polite. Instead of the blatant hostility of Bush, we'll have the passive-aggressive non-response of McCain.
No, thank you. I've had my fill of presidents who think that equality is a special right.
