Eliza Griswold's article is a somewhat chilling tale of how religion is being used to create strife in Nigeria. Of particular note is the mention of Anglican Archbishop Akinola who has been so vocal about the elevation of an openly gay bishop. It seems Akinola's hatred doesn't just extend to gay people. In North Carolina, just one state border south of Virginia, a church has been expelled from because it accepted gay and lesbian members. Their rules say that a church can only accept a gay or lesbian member who has "repented." It seems to me they are missing the point of what a church ought to be. Read more... »
